STD DefinitionSTDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) are diseases which are transmitted mainly but not exclusively by sexual means. The main cause of STDs is sexual promiscuity, also known as "casual sex" or "sleeping around".

STD testing would include blood sampling. In addition, for a male, urine samples are obtained. For the female, high vaginal swabs are taken.
Blood results would take 2-3 days to return. Urine and swab sample testing would take about a week to return. This is because the samples are sent for bacterial culture and PCR testing.
It takes up to a week for the bacterial cultures to grow, be identified, and tested for antibiotic spectrum of sensitivity. And the PCR testing would also take up to a week, as the DNA fragments from the dead bacteria would have to undergo a few incubation cycles to amplify the genetic sequences for detection.
HIV Test. Rapid HIV testing can also be done with the Orasure Oraquick® Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test.
HIV PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) treatment within 72 hours of exposure to HIV, can prevent HIV infection.
